Nothing for Thanksgivukkah
A song I wrote for a jazz harmony class that mixes Klezmer tonalities with jazz chords in an upbeat minor march.
Nothing for Thanksgivukkah is a song I wrote shortly after Thanksgivukkah, the once-in-a-lifetime co-occurrence of Hanukkah and Thanksgiving on the same date. The song aims to emulate some of the Klezmer tonalities I have grown up listening to with a marching beat.
The song is note-worthy harmonically in how it is able to delay the dominant V-i resolution until the end of the first 16 bar section. This is achieved by utilizing minor plagal cadences and tritone substitutions. The overall form is ABA with an almost delirious-sounding circus-like middle section.
